Hoyanet Services: Your Personal Billing Number (PBN)

Each student with a PAETEC Campuslink account is issued an individual personal billing number (PBN). You will need your PBN for all calls from residence halls to off-campus numbers, except for calls to PAETEC Customer Service, 911 Emergency, and the student speed dial list.

New students can request a PBN and account online at http://campuslink.paetec.com. Your account number and PBN will be e-mailed to your @georgetown.edu e-mail address. If you lose your PBN, please contact PAETEC at 800-962-4772 (you can dial *8223 from your dorm line). You don't need your PBN to dial this number from campus phones.

For returning students, your PBN should be the same as last year. If this does not work or if you have forgotten your PBN, please contact PAETEC at 800-962-4772 (you can dial *8223 from your dorm line).

Long distance and other toll calls are billed to you individually based on your PBN. Local calls are still included free in your basic phone service; you will not incur any additional charges for local and toll-free calls even though you need to enter your PBN.

Keep Your PBN Secure

Your PAETEC PBN gives you the freedom to place calls from anywhere on campus, but it is important to keep it secure like a password. You are responsible for the cost of any calls made with your PBN whether or not you made the call yourself. DO NOT share your PBN with anyone!

If your PBN is lost, or you suspect that it has been stolen, contact Customer Service immediately. PAETEC will disable your original PBN and a new PBN will be assigned.

Why do students need to use a Personal Billing Number (PBN) for calls to off-campus numbers?

Every year $15,000 - $17,000 is lost to fraudulent calls and unauthorized charges. University Information Services has diligently worked to contain this cost by working with the providers of these services and blocking access to these services whenever possible. The unauthorized charges that continue to accumulate come from a variety of sources, including:

  • Third Party Calls: when a call is placed from another location and charges are placed on your account
  • Answering Services: often placed by telemarketers
  • Personal 800 Numbers: often placed by telemarketers
  • Calling Cards: often placed by telemarketers
  • Some traditional toll-free numbers (800) have started carrying charges.

We are taking yet another step toward reducing and managing the cost by implementing the PBN for all off-campus student calls.

If you did not receive or have lost your PBN, please call PAETEC at 800-962-4772. You don't need your PBN to dial this number from campus phones.  You can also dial *8223 from your dorm line.
